Four research and development (R&D) papers and posters of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) emerged winners in the 34th Regional Symposium on R&D Highlights (RSRDH) of the Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC) held at MMSU Teatro Ilocandia on February 1-3.
The two papers presented under the oral development category titled “Sustaining MMSU’s IP-TBM office and enhancing IP-TBM offices among member agencies of the ILAARRDEC’ and ‘Bio-intensive Gardening (BIG) – Panlaban sa Covid-19 para sa Ilocos’ were 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. The former development paper was authored by the group headed by Dr. Dionisio S. Bucao while the latter was spearheaded by Ms. Marissa I. Atis.
Moreover, under the poster research category, the poster of Mr. Mario I. Remolacio and Mr. Constante B. Julian titled “Varietal improvement of glutinous corn, seed production and maintenance of MMSU Glut 1” was adjudged 1st place. Placing 3rd was the poster of the team headed by Ms. Noralyn B. Legaspi titled “Collection, characterization, conservation, and improvement of garlic, genetic resources in the Philippines.”
The four winners were among the 12 entries of MMSU - 6 R&D papers and 6 posters, in this year’s RSRDH which were earlier selected during the various commodity reviews conducted by ILAARRDEC.
The RSRDH is an annual event of ILAARRDEC participated by its member institutions wherein research breakthroughs and significant findings from the various R&D activities were presented and disseminated to the end-users.
