nathan_presentingDr. Nathaniel R. Alibuyog, researcher of MMSU, has presented his paper on remote sensing during the National Research Conference sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education – Higher Education Regional Research Centers (CHED-HERRC) at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City last August 8, 2014.

His paper with Dr. Dionisio Bucao and Ms. Leah Tute entitled Predicting Rice Yield from Multi-temporal Satellite Data using Artificial Neural Network is under the program Harnessing GIS and Remote Sensing Technology for improved governance and agricultural productivity.

With the theme, Higher Education Institutions’ Research and Development for National Development, Dr. Alibuyog was chosen as one of the presenters from the 16 regional CHED offices in the country.

The said paper presented the potentials of ANN models to develop rice yield synathan_awardingstems using the multi-temporal satellite data before the harvest season using remote sensing images. Moreover, results of the study showed that the models are useful timely prediction of crop yield over large areas as well a basis for policy makers to address rice self-sufficiency issues.

Back in 2013, the said paper won 3rd place in the Technology for Generation category during the 25th National Research Symposium sponsored by Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR).
