Brief Description
This study is under the project "Varietal Improvement in Eggplant".

Choosing a variety adapted and suited to a certain locality is one of the component in order to grow a healthy crop which in turn gives a high considerable yield. Promising varieties that was evaluated and selected from previous studies for wet season planting will be further tested and evaluated on farmers field for adaptation.

The existing farmers variety and the newly developed varieties will be evaluated in terms of their growth and yield performance.

The study will be set up in two sites, Batac and Dingras. Farmer cooperators will be selected based on their willingness to involve in the project and at least planting vegetables. Recommended management practices of eggplant will be used and this will be researchers managed and farmers managed. Trials will be closely monitored and the needed technical assistance shall be provided. Data on yield and cost and return analysis will be gathered, computed and analyzed.

Major activities include:

  1. Site selection of suitable area
  2. Field evaluation of the promising MMSU F1 hybrid eggplant (Researchers managed and farmers managed)
Expected Output
  • High yielding varieties (pinakbet and broiling type) suited for wet season planting
  • Reduced fluctuation of supply during wet season
  • Readily-available, seeds of the selected varieties for wet season planting
  • Varieties for registration to NSIC
