Biography

Prima Fe Ragudo-Franco is a Specialist Microbiologist accredited by the Philippine Academy of Microbiology of the Philippine Society for Microbiology. She is a Professor V of the Mariano Marcos State University. She specializes in Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. She finished her Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. She worked on the tox R genes of Vibrio harveyi and she has submitted the gene sequences at the NCBI data base. She finished MS in Biological Sciences at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, U.S.A. where she cloned and expressed the red pigment genes of Xenorhabdus luminescens. Her Master’s degree was funded by the US-RP Faculty Development Program of the USAID. Her BS in Biology was taken at the Mariano Marcos State University where she graduated as cum laude.

Dr. Franco studied the microorganisms related to sweet sorghum. She is now working on pathogen detection in food products and on Acetobacter isolates from Iloko vinegar. She has a number of thesis advisees in the MS Biology and BS Biology programs and all studies are geared towards Microbiology and Biotechnology.

Dr. Franco is a CHED REPUBLICA Awardee and a winner in the Philippine Society for Microbiology Professional level Oral Competition. She is an outstanding Teacher awardee and an Outstanding alumna of MMSU.
