Biography

Ms. Leticia A. Lutap completed her Master in Agriculture at Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in 1992. Her field of specialization is Crop Protection and a member of the Philippine Association of Entomologist and Philippine Fruits Association.

She was involved in many researches particularly Integrated Pest Management on crops like vegetables, rice and mango. One of her researches titled Pest Management in Vegetable Production including pesticide residue analysis of selected vegetable in farmers’ field and market outlets was published in MMSU S&T Journal.  She was also awarded as Best Extension Worker during the Silver Anniversary Foundation of MMSU last January 5, 2003.

She was formally trained in Integrated Pest Management and a graduate of Rice Specialist Training course (RST) IPM KASAKALIKASAN  at Philrice, Nueva Ecija last July – November 2005. Her expertise was utilized as a resource person/facilitator in the conduct of Training of Trainors ( TOT) and Farmers Field School ( FFS) by the Department of Agriculture  in farmers field specially in rice and vegetable in Ilocos.

Since breeding is closely related to pest management strategies, as a researcher she also explores into the development of hybrid eggplants suited for wet season planting and then pureline  selection so that farmers can re-use their variety because  there is  a very high demand of vegetables like eggplant during wet season due to the risk brought about by climatic factors. At present, she is working on the Development of Pest Management Products and System in Organic Vegetable Production in which plant materials with pesticidal property available locally is being formulated into products to become a  biopesticide  against major pest of vegetables.
