Dr. Epifania O. Agustin is a core faculty of the MMSU Graduate School holding an academic rank of Professor IV. She is a graduate of Doctor of Philosophy (Soil Water Management) from the University of Reading, Berkshire, England, United Kingdom in 1993. She finished her Master’s Degree in Soil Science (Soil Chemistry) with Statistics as her cognate field at the University of the Philippines at Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines in 1985. She finished these degrees through the Food and Agriculture of the United Nations (FAO-UN) and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research (PCARRD) scholarship, respectively. She has attended a number of international and national short-term courses and study tours through fellowship/scholarship from organizations such as the IRRI, GTZ-Germany, Rural Development Administration- South Korea, PCAARRD, and PhilRice. Just recently she attended a training course in Research Management and “How to get key decision makers to say yes to your project ideas: A training course for project implementers. Both courses were sponsored by PCAARRD.
Dr. Agustin is an accredited SUC Professor and has been designated to various administrative positions which are: Director for Research (June 1999-Sept 2004 and June 2008-Nov 2009), Dean for Instruction (June 2005-May 2006), VP for Academic Affairs (Nov 2009-May 2011) and VP for Research & Extension (June 2011-May 2013), and VP for Research, Extension & Business and Director of the Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium from Oct 2017 to the present. In addition, she has provided technical expertise in various capacities to regional and national organizations/ working groups such as the AACCUP, ILARRDEC, and PhilRice.
Dr. Agustin is very active in research particularly in the following research topics: soil conservation in agroforestry systems, green manuring, integrated resource management and land use analysis, modeling agriculture and agforestry systems, organic agriculture, and plant genetic resources conservation and utilization. Majority of these researches are collaborative in nature with external funding support from national agencies and international organizations such as UPLB, PhilRice, IRRI, DOST-PCARRD, EC-Belgium, and SEARCA. She has presented quite a number of these researches in regional, national and international scientific conferences and conventions. She has published her works in refereed and non-refereed journals, symposium proceedings, chapter of a book, discussion paper series, policy brief and information and technology books. Additionally, she has gained substantial number of recognitions and awards for these researches among which are: MMSU Outstanding Researcher, DA Secretary’s Award, AFMA Outstanding Research Paper Award, AFMA Paper Awards, and ILARRDEC Best Research and Poster Paper Awards. She is regularly tapped by the DA, various degree offering departments of the MMSU and scientific organization as evaluator in research reviews and colloquium and scientific conferences.
