Biography

Prof. Maura Luisa S. Gabriel is Professional Agriculturist through RA 8435 and RA 8981 and presently holds the rank of Associate Professor V at the Mariano Marcos State University.   She earned her  BS in Agriculture   major in Horticulture and Master of Science in Horticulture  with Postharvest Physiology as her field of specialization at the University of the Philippines at Los Banos in 1981 and 1986, respectively. She is actively involved in Instruction, Research, Extension and Production activities.  Currently she is designated as Project  Manager of the Dragon Fruit Production Project  and concurrently the Project Incharge of the Medicinal Nursery and Ornamental Nursery projects under the College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development (CAFSD). She is also the current College Research Coordinator of CAFSD.

She started her career as  Science Research Assistant  II in  June 1982 until June 30, 1987.  In June 1983, she pursued her masteral degree  at UPLB and finished in June 1986 under the MMSU Fellowship Program.  After her masteral education she joined the College of Agriculture and Forestry as instructor in July 1987. She was awarded a Training Grant by SEAMEO-BIOTROP to attend Training Course on Advanced Techniques of Tissue Culture for Forest Tree Improvement in Bogor, Indonesia in 1990.

As a researcher, she was the Vegetable Commodity Team Leader from 1988-1992.  She was involved as study Leader in the following  GAA and GIA researches: Rapid Multiplication Techniques in White Potato; Management of Postharvest Pests and Diseases in Garlic (Allium sativum L.); Field evaluation of Tissue-Cultured Garlic; Participatory Approach in the selection of Indigenous Vegetables; Micropropagation of High Value Crops and  Commercialization of tissue cultured banana seedlings .  Currently she is the project leader of the following researches:  Postharvest Technology for major Vegetable Crops  in the Ilocos and Postharvest Studies in Dragon fruit. 

She had two publications in MMSU S&T Journal as main author and a co-author and also a co-author in ISI indexed journal. She received several awards in local, regional and national levels.

She was able to transfer technologies generated in research as  she served as technical expert in  S and T Based Farm  on Organic-based  Ginger, Dragon Fruit and Onion.  She also serves as resource speaker in various extension activities and awarded as  MMSU Best Extension Worker in 2013.
