In line with the MMSU’s mandate to strengthen its human capital, 6 of its personnel- 4 full-time researchers and 2 faculty members, attended training programs and convention this February 2016. The training programs are along scientific writing and journal publishing while the convention is all about meteorology and hydrology.
The personnel and the respective training programs are as follows:
1. Dr. Susan G. Aquino, Education Program Specialist II
Date and Venue: Feb.17-20 at The VIP Hotel, Don Apolinar Velez St, Cagayan De Oro, Philippines
Title and Objective: Training Workshop on Scientific Writing: Use of Technology Based Tools in Improving Article Quality Tools in Improving Article Quality - It aims to impart to researchers the competencies, basic guidelines in writing scientific paper with focus on the use of technology-based tools for quality scientific writing for research journals.

Date and Venue: Feb.17-18 at Shangri-La Finest Chinese Cuisine, #4 Times St. West Triangle, Quezon City.
Title and Objectives: 11th National Meteorological and Hydrological Convention: "The Role of Meteorology in Disaster Prevention and Mitigation" – The convention primarily intends to provide a venue where the scientific and non-scientific community collectively and efficiently links science with the societal needs thus resolving the need for demand-based and sectoral-based response to extreme weather and climate events. Attended by scientists, local leaders, policy-makers, industrialists, and end-users, the convention is an opportunity for the participating researchers to associate and collaborate with other researchers and scientists. Acquired knowledge and skills are to be used by researchers in formulating/conceptualizing researches along the different fields of Meteorology and in the disaster risk reduction and management.

Date and Venue: Feb. 22-25 at Seda at Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City
Title and Objectives: Training Workshop for Peer Reviewers and Editors – This aims to determine and discuss techniques in writing a scientific article passing the standards of peer reviewers and world standards in the selection of quality scientific references using advanced technology. Likewise, the training aims to identify causes of article rejections by reviewers.

Date and Venue: Feb. 22-25 at Subic Bay Travellers Hotel, Subic Bay, Zambales
Title and Objectives: National Seminar-workshop on Research Journal Management: Standards and Best Practices- The seminar-workshop’s purpose is to discuss international and Philippine standards for journal management; share experiential success stories and best practices in journal management and accreditation from seasoned editors and journal managers; and assess and benchmark strategies of journal management from the pre- and post-publication phases through workshops. Specific topics are publication standards (process, guidelines and policies), governance (editorial board and staff), and quality assurance (peer review system, content and copy editing), journal lay-out, print and online publishing, dissemination and utilization, and journal accreditation.
