Brief Description | This study will be conducted in the northern coastal areas of Ilocos Norte, i.e., Bangui, Burgos, Pagudpud, and Pasuquin where majority of the seaweed gatherers and sellers are located. A descriptive statistics will be used in the analysis of data from gatherers and sellers in four coastal towns of Ilocos Norte. A pre-tested, semi-structured interview schedule will be used to gather the primary data from the respondents that composed of gatherers and sellers of seaweed. The core of this study is to try to use an accounting framework on gender roles in the seaweed fishery for a rational resource management and in promoting gender sensitive seaweed fishery systems for sustainable community transformation and development. Hence, this study will map out human activities to depict the differentiated roles that men and women significantly play over time and space, that is, the spatio-temporal model in seaweed gathering and marketing. Results of this study will be used as tools not only to document and measure the gender roles but also to set limits and policies that are really adaptable according to gender which will be useful for policy makers who wish to set targets for sustainable policies and in guiding management efforts that are geared towards keeping the socio-economic and physico-geographic environment conditions of affected areas - the real essence of sustainability. Moreover, results of this study will also be useful in coming up with an accounting framework to be used in related research and extension activities. Specifically, planners and implementers will be provided with a gender planning methodology that enables them to translate gender-awareness into a tool for planning practice. |
Expected Output | Spatio-temporal model that could be structured in seaweed gathering and marketing |
