Brief Description | The Research and Development (R&D) Directorate serves as the central, coordinating, monitoring and implementing unit of R&D activities in the university. Many R&D activities at present are done manually on paper especially on the retrieval of R&D information which is time-consuming. To fundamentally change the way the Directorate manage and control the research processes, we intend to solve this to rid ourselves of the tedium of paperwork and other manual processing through developing integrated computer-based R&D information systems to provide cost-effective and worry-free access to real-time knowledge and information and eliminating timing issues caused. This project is an integration of computer-based information systems that will monitor status and provide information on proposed, on-going, completed, extended projects as well as which projects will be deferred and terminated in terms of physical and financial accomplishment, efficient distribution of needed supplies and materials as procured by the different researchers, well-organized inventory of facilities and online information system. We need to define the business requirements of the project, establish the database and develop the software for the whole duration of the project. As we gather feedback, we continuously refine the system being developed. On the 3rd and 4th quarter of Year 2, the modified software will be deployed, that is R&D website will be functional and will be deployed at the http://research.mmsu.edu.ph, as well as, the RMIS, HRMIS, SMIS and EFIS will be functional. Software Architecture. The Model-View-Controller design pattern will be used in developing the software. With this approach, business logic is separated from the user interface (UI) considerations resulting in an application where it is easier to modify either the visual appearance of the application or the underlying business rules without affecting the other. Software Development. The Database Design Methodology will be used in designing the database while the Extreme Programming (XP) software development methodology will be used in developing the web based software.
