Year 1

The project will be implemented through a combination of training, farm technology demonstration, and farm field days. This will be conducted in the City of Batac, particularly in barangays where the Improved Tomato Storage Technology will be disseminated to the interested women/housewives.

List of women/housewives who will become adoptors of the Improved Tomato Storage Technology will be taken from the Department of Agriculture based at the city office of Batac. Basis of selection will be those from tomato-growing barangays, and their willingness to attend the seminar and eventually adopt the technology.

Training program on the Improved Tomato Storage Technology will be conducted in the month of February prior to the storing period which is March (peak of tomato season where the price is low). It will be a combination of lectures and presentation of research results on several experiments conducted on tomato storage. Participants will be provided with brochures regarding the technology during the training program.

The project team will provide technical assistance to the housewives/women adoptors during the establishment of their storage set up. Every detail of the technology adoption will be carefully and properly taken cared of during the entire storage duration.

Totality of all the storage activities of the women adoptors will be monitored. To evaluate their adoption ability these questions may be answered: in their own view of their storage experience, what virtue of a woman/housewife be strengthened, will they continue to adopt the technology, will they be interested to venture in bigger storage business, will they be envisioning themselves to become financially elevated through storing tomatoes?

A field day will be conducted at the end of the storage duration, (after two months) to allow the women to observe and gather some important factors related to their tomato storage set up and will be able to exchange ideas.

Year 2

Commercialization of the Improved Tomato Storage Technology

In the pursuit for larger scale adoption, the technology will be disseminated to more women clienteles. During the second year of the project implementation, a seminar will be conducted on the improved tomato storage technology; women/housewives will be encouraged to adopt the technology. Technical assistance will be provided to them from the beginning until the two-month duration of storage. Frequent monitoring will be done to ensure proper adoption; evaluation and field days will also be conducted. At the end of the project implementation, a scientific report will be submitted.
