Brief Description
The study is focused on the technologies developed by MMSU that are ready for transfer to stakeholders particularly on the production and utilization of  Dioscorea luzonensis (kamangeg).  This will be conducted in Ilocos Norte specifically in areas where the crops are abundant

It is composed of three major activities namely:  1) survey on existing practices of stakeholders on the production and utilization of kamangeg; 2) development of IEC materials; and 3) capacity building activities.

A survey will be done in areas where kamangeg, is abundant to be identified based on data that will be gathered from secondary sources.  An interview schedule will be used to gather the information that pertains to the existing practices on the production and utilization of the three crops.  The information to be gathered will be summarized and assessed and will serve as benchmark data in the development and or refinement of generated technologies on less-known yam.

Generated technologies on less-known yam will be popularized and packaged into IEC materials.  The developed IEC materials will be assessed in terms of comprehensibility, applicability, attractiveness, adequacy of information, and credibility.  These will be used in support of the capacity-building activities.

The capacity building will consist of three parts, i.e. knowledge-building, community organizing, and provision of support systems.   Monitoring and evaluation of the takers of the technology will be done in order to get feedback regarding the technologies that will be offered to them.

Expected Output
  • Benchmark information on the existing practices of local people on the production and utilization of lesser yam
  • Information, education, and communication materials on the production and utilization of less-known yam species
  • Capacitated stakeholders engaged in entrepreneurial activity
