Ma. Danica Ines-Ramil is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacy and an early stage researcher with interests in Pharmacology and Toxicology, Natural Products, Drug Delivery and Pharmacy Practice.
She is currently a PhD in Pharmacy candidate at Centro Escolar University – Manila and working on the investigation of natural products’ antihypertensive activities. She obtained her MS in Pharmacy degree from the Philippines Women’s University (PWU) – Manila in 2012 and a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy in 2007 from Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) – City of Batac.
She is the lead author of the published research articles in peered-reviewed journals: “Assessment on the Physicochemical and Phytochemical Properties, Nutritional and Heavy Metal Contents, and Antioxidant Activities of Hylocereus polyrhizus Peel from Northern Philippines” (IJST, 2021) and “Pharmacotherapy of Adult Patient with Chronic Urticaria Associated with Gastritis” (IAM, 2018).
She was able to work as a visiting researcher for MMSU in a research collaboration with Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University (TMPU) in Sendai, Japan for three months in 2019 which focused on the investigation of chemical and biological properties of natural products and the elucidation of their structure-activity relationship. As a result, she co-authored a research article that was published in international indexed journal: “A new hexenoic acid glycoside with cytotoxic activity from the leaves of Psychotria luzoniensis” (Nat Prod Res, 2020) and applied for a patent.
As a project and study leader in the university from 2014 to present, she completed various internally and externally funded researches and received awards from competitions in both regional and national oral research presentations. At present, she is an active member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee in the university and a number of scientific organizations in the country – Philippine Pharmacists’ Association (PPhA), Natural Product Society of the Philippines (NPSP) and Philippine Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PSBMB).
