Prof. Joan R. Rarogal is a Licensed Agriculturist and an Assistant Professor at the College of Agriculture, Food and Sustainable Development of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU). She finished her Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture major in Animal Science, and Master’s degree in Animal Science at MMSU.
Before she joined the academe in 2016, she worked as an agriculturist / researcher at the Department of Agriculture – Ilocos Norte Research and Experiment Center (DA-INREC) for three years. She was involved as a researcher in the project entitled, “Accelerating the Development and Adoption of Next-Generation Rice Varieties for the Major Ecosystems in the Philippines” from 2014-2016, which was presented in various research fora. She was also involved in the pre-implementation activities of the “Community-based Participatory Action Research (CPAR) on Breeder Goat Production in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur” in July 2016.
At present, she is handling animal science subjects at the Department of Agricultural Sciences. Aside from instruction, she is also involved in research, extension, and production projects of the University in relation to her field of expertise. She was a project staff of the research program funded by DOST-PCAARRD entitled, “Sustainable Production, Utilization, and Marketing of Improved Bolinao Native Chicken in Ilocos Region” from February 2018 – July 2021. She facilitated and implemented activities under the project study, “Technology Transfer and Partnership with the Private Sector Towards Sustainable Production of Bolinao Chicken”. Prof. Rarogal is likewise the study leader in the livestock component of the CHED-funded project, "Food Sufficiency through Agri-Enterprise Development of MMSU Technologies using Customized Hybridized Extension Modalities” from 2018 – 2019. In 2019, she finished her dissertation titled, “Comparative Detection Methods of Nematode Parasite Eggs of Dairy Buffaloes as Influenced by Reproductive Status”. She also serves as in-charge of the ruminant project for one year, and is currently the in-charge of the native pig production project at the Livestock and Poultry project of the University. She is particularly interested in aspects of swine production hence, her approved proposal on “Increasing Availability of Swine Quality Stock through Distribution and Upgrading of Swine Multiplier Farm in Ilocos Norte” funded by DA-ACEF. In relation to this, she attended the National Trainers’ Course on Pig Husbandry for two months conducted by the International Training Center for Pig Husbandry.
She has attended and participated in various trainings, seminars and workshops in local, regional and national levels for skills and knowledge enhancement and for the improvement of instruction, research, extension and production. Prof. Rarogal also serves as facilitator in trainings, tapped as research panel in undergraduate theses, and as speaker in various trainings along her field of expertise.
