Biography

Jerome D. Binarao is currently the chairperson of the Department of Fisheries in MMSU. He is presently employed as instructor since August 2019. He handled fundamental and professional courses in fisheries such as Zoology and Botany (Fisheries preparatory courses), Ichthyology, Aquatic Invertebrates, Fish physiology and Oceanography. He served as Planning and Development Coordinator in the college from 2019 to mid-2021. 

He finished his undergraduate at MMSU with the degree Bachelor of Science in Fisheries, cum laude in 2018, immediately took and passed the Fisheries Technologist Licensure Examination in the same year. He previously worked at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) – Regional Office 1 as a Research Assistant from November 2018 to May 2019 under the joint project of BFAR Region I, II, and CAR named OPLAN Sagip Ludong Project: Saving our Endangered Philippine Ludong. He took up his Master’s Degree in Fisheries Science at Pukyong National University, South Korea through the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Scholarship Program. His study focused on the mitochondrial genomics and phylogeny of various fishes from Africa.

His undergraduate thesis entitled “Comparison on the Growth Performance and Lipid Profile of Nile Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (Linn. 1758) Fed with Fish Offal Meal and Duckweed (Lemna sp.) Meal” garnered 3rd Place in Scientific Poster Competition by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 1 and was qualified for the national level during the NAST Regional Scientific Meeting – Luzon last May 2021.
