Biography
Leonardo Daquioag Tejano is an Assistant Professor III at Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), where he teaches major and professional education courses in the Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Special Needs Education, and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education programs within the College of Teacher Education. He also teaches in the Master of Arts in Education program at the MMSU Graduate School.
Tejano’s scholarly pursuits span language education, mother tongue-based multilingual education, special education, cultural education, as well as Ilokano, Amianan, and Indigenous studies.
Beyond academia, Tejano is active in literary and journalistic circles. His creative works have appeared in notable publications such as Bannawag (for Ilokano) and Liwayway (for Tagalog). Additionally, he has written articles for Rappler, a leading digital media platform in the Philippines, and Northern Dispatch, an alternative media outlet focused on the issues and perspectives of Northern Luzon communities.
From 2020 to 2023, Tejano led the MMSU Center for Iloko and Amianan Studies as Chief, driving initiatives to develop, manage, and promote Ilokano and Northern Luzon heritage and knowledge.
His academic journey includes the completion of coursework for a Master of Arts in Education-Special Education and a Master of Arts in Education-Ilokano Studies, all at MMSU. He also holds a Bachelor of Elementary Education-Special Education from the same university.
Tejano has spearheaded several research projects, notably those funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF). He has also contributed to projects under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for MMSU.
Currently, Tejano serves as the Research Coordinator for the MMSU College of Teacher Education and as the Program Adviser for the Master of Arts in Education-Ilokano Studies at the Graduate School.
