Biography

Ms. Hazel H. Achuela earned her Master of Science in Animal Science, major in Animal Breeding with a minor in Genetics, from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna in 2022. She was granted the Department of Science and Technology – Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program scholarship during this period.

Prior to her master's degree, she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, major in Animal Science, at Mariano Marcos State University in the City of Batac, Ilocos Norte, in 2017. On the same year, she successfully passed the Licensure Examination for Agriculturist, securing the 9th place, which qualified her to be a recipient of the 2018 Sirib Award from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte and the 2017 Presidential Award from the Office of the President of Mariano Marcos State University.

Currently holding the position of Assistant Professor II, she serves as the College Secretary of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development of Mariano Marcos State University, City of Batac, Ilocos Norte, a role she has assumed since September 12, 2023. Before assuming this position, she served as the College Research Coordinator from October 4, 2022, to September 11, 2023.

Her commitment to education is evident in her active engagement in teaching since September 2017. She has handled subjects such as Introduction to Animal Science, Introduction to Livestock and Poultry Production, Animal Breeding, and Principles of Genetics.

Moreover, she is presently a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. She has been actively involved in research projects, including the "Epidemiology of Internal Parasites in Ilocos Norte" and "AMResponsible: Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) on the Use of Veterinary Antibiotics in Ilocos Norte." Additionally, she is a project staff of the extension project titled "Animal Diseases Surveillance and Prioritization in the City of Batac, Ilocos Norte."

She also contributed as a writer for the Animal Science Module under the joint project of the College of Agriculture and Food Science, UP Los Baños, and State Universities and Colleges – Association of Colleges of Agriculture in the Philippines in November 2021.

Committed to continuous learning, Hazel has completed various short courses, including "Getting Grounded on Analytics" offered by the Development Academy of the Philippines. She has also pursued online short courses through Coursera, such as the Project Management specialization from the University of California, Irvine, and the Dairy Production and Management course from The Pennsylvania State University.
