This book presents a comprehensive profile of some of the Micro-Hydroelectric Systems (MHS) in the landlocked province of Abra, one of the provinces comprising the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in northern Philippines. This is one of the three service-area provinces of the Affiliated Renewable Energy Center (AREC) based at the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Batac City, Ilocos Norte. There are now some relatively new MHS in the area along with the first MHS established in the 1990s. The "best practices" in the development of new MHS and the improvement of existing units will hopefully help policymakers or project leaders in developing and up-grading MHS systems that are more gender-sensitive
This book is the third of a series of publications being produced by the "Gender Mainstreamingabd Sensitivity Holistic Advocacy for Renewable Energy Development" Program implemented by the AREC at MMSU.
The publication is structured in four chapters. The first chapter entitled "Biomass cookstoves forever!" relates the historical background on the use of biomass cookstoves and their role in transforming human culture. The different IBC models were then grouped according to the material used in their manufacture or fabrication, namely: Chapter 2 (clay), Chapter 3 (metal), and Chapter 4 (Combination)
This book contains proceedings of the seminar, "Business in biomass waste: prospects in the biomass energy sector" conducted on 20 November 2012 by the Mariano Marcos State University-AREC. Specifically it features the following topics: Status of biogas resource waste management in Region 1 (Chapter 1), Waste from biogas resource: characterization and basic generation processes (chapter 2); Biogas generator conservation (chapter 3); Briquetting of pigwaste (Chapter 4); Production of liquid fertilizer from biogas resource wastes (Chapter 5); Biogas for heat and electricity generation: The Fatima experience (Chapter 6)
Contained in this publication are the proceedings are the proceedings of the National Training on Gender Mapping" conducted by MMSU-AREC on 26-29 November 2012. There are 20 areas and elements of gender mapping presented in this book which are distributed in four chapters organized according to the systematic sequence or stages of the process of gender mapping. The first element is contained in Chapter 1 while the other 19 elements are clustered in the other three chapters. Chapter 1 is on the sublect of "Backgrounding". Chapter 2 presents the cluster on "Problematizing" consisting of three steps. The next seven steps are clustered in Chapter 3 entitled, "Concept Forming". Nine steps that complete the process are clustered as "Going Through the Process" in Chapter 4.
This publication contains the proceedings of Gendre Mainstreaming Capability and Livelihood Training for Sustainable Community-Based Micro-Hydroelectric Systems conducted by MMSU-AREC on 27-29 August 2012.
There are two main sections of this book. The first section presents the 13 paper presentations. These 13 subject entries represent the Chapters. The other section is the Annexes containing 11 entries from Training Design to the Profile of the Speakers.
