Brief Description
The project will employ the survey/quadrat method in attaining the objectives of the study. These will consist of field work which will be done once a month per established station, and a laboratory work.

Major Activities/Workplan:

  1. Preliminary survey to establish collecting stations/study sites
  2. Monthly sampling for the inventory
  3. Bio-physical parameters determination
  4. Identification and classification of collected samples
  5. Wet and dry biomass determination
Goal 1: Complete taxonomic listing and population structure of Sargassum spp and products developed from Sargassum spp in Ilocos Norte

  • Inventory and classify species of Sargassum spp in Ilocos Norte
  • Assess seasonal variation and production of Sargassum spp
Goal 2: Utilization of Brown Seaweeds (Sargassum spp) in the waters off Ilocos Norte
 
Purpose:
  • Develop food products from brown seaweeds (Sargassum)
  • Determine the acceptability of the developed food products
  • Establish nutritional facts
  • Conduct shelf life testing
  • Develop packaging of the food products
