Biography

Dr. Veronica Obien-Grande is a Licensed Fisheries Technologist. Dr. Grande has been in the government service since 1986.  She started as a Science Research Assistant in 1986 and became a faculty member in 1990. She has a baccalaureate degree in Fisheries, major in Inland Fisheries. She has her Master of Arts in Education in 2000 at Mariano Marcos State University, Graduate School and has her PhD in Aquaculture at Central Luzon State University in 2009.  She is an Associate Professor V at Mariano Marcos State University. As an educator, she has handled courses such as Aquaculture, Fish Hatchery, Fish Nutrition Aquatic Ecology and Resources, Project Development and Fisheries Management as well as Research Methods and Design.  She has been an adviser of competitive undergraduate theses under the BSFisheries degree program.  She has been the Department Chair of the Fisheries Department of MMSU College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology from 2009 to 2019.  She serves also as member of AACCUP, internal and external accreditor in Fisheries, Biology programs.

She has been involved in several researches and extension activities: Inventory/Assessment of Agarophytes in Ilocos Norte funded by PCAMRRD; Pilot Scale Application of Aquashade to Reduce Water Temperature and Enhance Seed Production in Hatchery System for Tilapia under the DOST PCAMRRD;  Inventory and Assessment of Sea Cucumber in Different Geographical Regions of the Philippines sponsored by CHED as Project Leader in Ilocos Norte (Regional component);  Evaluation of Aquaculture Farms and Practices in Region I: Bridging the Gaps to Organic Aquaculture funded by DA BAR as a Program Leader. She has undergone various trainings in aquaculture production as well as extension Activities such as Propagation and Processing of Oysters and Mussels; Enhancement Training on Tilapia Production; Workshop on Sustainable Philippine Sea Cucumber Industry: Sea Cucumber R & D Feedback & Workshop;  Impact Assessment Training on R & D and Technology Transfer programs in Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources. Also a Project Leader in Strengthening the Partnership of MMSU-CASAT and the Three LGUs of Three Coastal Municipalities of Ilocos Norte on the Protection and Management of Sea Cucumber Resource Through Information and Education Awareness;   also a Project in Empowering Fisherfolks Through Enterprise Development Project o Seaweed Production, Value-Adding and Marketing.

She also serves as the Project Leader for the extension project titled Aqua-based Food Products Development for Livelihood and Resource Sustainability in Ilocos under the CHED-NAFES; the program leader in the Development/Improvement of the Marine Hatchery of CASAT under the CHED-NAFES; 

Presently, she is holding a position of Associate Professor V and appointed as the OIC – Dean of MMSU College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology.
