Biography

James Paul T. Madigal is a faculty and researcher of the Department of Biological Sciences, College of Arts and Science, MMSU. Mr. Madigal has completed his Master’s Degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology with a minor in Microbiology at the University of the Philippines, Los Baños. He is one of the pioneers of Bioethanol research at MMSU which started last 2008-2009 where they started with waste and no funding. Recently, his research was about the mapping of microorganisms involved in Nypa fruticans sap natural fermentation. He identified yeasts strains naturally residing in nipa sap fermentation using molecular methods. Currently, he is doing the optimization study on the fermentation characteristics of the identified nipa yeast strains for bioethanol production which is under the National Bioenergy Research and Extension for Sustainable Development Program.
 
In addition to his research work, Mr. Madigal is also involved in a research funded by DENR-National Greening Program entitled, “Establishment Nipa R&D Support Facility, Productivity Assessment of Existing Nipa Stands in Regions 1, 2, &3 and Coordination of the National Nipa Plantation Project” which he is in-charge in the establishment of nipa laboratory for the production of quality planting materials.
