Biography

James Paul T. Madigal is an Assistant Professor  at the College of Arts and Sciences, MMSU. He completed his Master of Science in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (minor in Microbiology) in 2017 at University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna under the DOST-ASTHRDP Scholarship Program. His research interests is on the microbiology and biotechnological potential of indigenous microorganisms from natural fermenting nipa sap. He identified two strains of yeasts from nipa sap who possesses high ethanol fermentation and torelated acidic and high temperature environments. In 2019, he was a visiting young researcher at the Faculty of Agriculture, Shizuoka University under the Sakura Science Exchange Program of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) where he worked and trained to develop a biorefinery technologies for a period of one month.
At present, he is studying PhD in Agriculture (Monbukagakushu, MEXT Scholar) at the Graduate School of Bio-Applications and Systems Engineering (BASE), Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), Japan, specializing in biomass resource utilization. His research is on the utilization and evaluating the biodegradability and biodigestibility potential of natural mutant mulberry wood deficient in Cinnamyl Alcohol Dehydrogenase (CAD) gene using selected white rot fungi for efficient cellulose ethanol and biochemicals production.
