Brief Description

Burial practices are an essential part of Philippine culture, reflecting respect for the dead, communal values, and traditions passed down through generations. In Ilocos Norte, these practices embody the beliefs, customs, and values of the Ilokano people. However, modernization, migration, and generational changes have led to a decline in awareness and observance of these traditions, particularly among the youth.

This study aims to document the burial practices of the people of Ilocos Norte and examine how these practices are observed, and the values reflected in them. The study aims to preserve cultural heritage and promote a deeper understanding of the significance of these traditional burial practices.

The study covers selected municipalities and cities in Ilocos Norte, classified into lowland, mountainside, and seaside areas. Respondents include individuals knowledgeable about burial practices, identified through purposive sampling with the assistance of municipal tourism officers. Data were gathered through focused group discussions and structured interviews.

The findings of this study will benefit the community, educators, local government units, and future researchers by serving as a resource for cultural preservation, education, and policy development, and by encouraging the continued practice and appreciation of Ilocano burial traditions.
