Brief Description

The technology will address the pressing problem of the low yield of locally-produced garlic, which is aggravated by the unavailability of disease-free planting materials and the lack of adaptable high-yielding variety. Optimization of the production of disease-free planting materials (e.g rapid multiplication of shoots, virus elimination, virus indexing) will lead in the production of sufficient volume of clean planting materials, and the development of improved garlic varieties either through mutation breeding and/or adaptation of introduced garlic variety are expected to boost productivity at the farm level.

Expected Output

  • Patents/IP:   multiplication technique from G0-G3
  • Products:      clean planting materials of garlic; new high-yielding variety/ies
  • People Services:  at least 2 BS students assisted; at least 20 seed growers trained
  • Partnership:  garlic growing LGUs in Ilocos Norte
