Research Details

 This research explores how solo parent working students at the 5 colleges of Mariano Marcos State University manage the interconnected demands of parenting, employment, and higher education. The study examines their financial literacy practices—particularly financial knowledge, behavior, and attitudes—and their transversal skills, including time management, critical thinking, adaptability, communication, and problem-solving. 
 Using a qualitative case study with embedded quantitative evidence, the research seeks to understand the students’ lived experiences and the factors that shape their financial decisions and skill development. Its findings are intended to inform an evidence-based policy brief and institutional support framework that can strengthen university programs and services for solo parent working students. 

 The study will produce (1) an institutional support framework for solo parent working students, (2) at least one international peer-reviewed research publication, (3) copyrightable research and knowledge products, (4) a capability-building activity on financial literacy and transversal skills, and (5) evidence-based policy recommendations and research presentations to support more inclusive student services at MMSU.
