Brief Description
A research study to document the participation of women and men in aquaculture fishery in Ilocos Norte, which seeks to establish salient points on aquaculture's contribution for the advancement of women. Findings of the study will serve as basis in designing gender-sensitive development strategies, to strengthen the position of women in the said sector. Offshoot of the study will be development strategies to enhance women's and men's capacity for the improvement of the industry and for their economic well-being. Household respondents were identified through survey in collaboration with the Municipal Agricultural offices.

Households engaged in aquafarming are the respondents. Total enumeration is employed since there are only 201 households identified engaged in this sector.

The study is basically descriptive. An interview schedule translated in Iluko dialect which consists of three parts: I - focused on the socio-demographic profile, II - on the household members' involvement in aquaculture, and III - on identifying related problems, is used in gathering data.

Measures of frequency counts, means and percentages are used to describe the results. Correlation analysis will be employed to determine the relationships between the personal profile of the respondents and their participation.

The study is conducted in the different municipalities of Ilocos Norte where there are households engaged in aquaculture as their sources of income.

The research study is programmed for two (2) years and is now on its second year. A total of 201 household respondents was identified and a progress report of the research work was reported during the 2013 In-house review. Suggestions from the panel of evaluators were all considered and incorporated. A total of 96 households more in Paoay and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte are still to be surveyed for the 100% sampling. Respondent households int he upstream municipalities are still to be determined.

Expected Output
Paper for presentation on the status of the aquaculture industry and the profile, and role of the men and women involved.
