Brief Description
This research outlines the development and implementation of an Intellectual Property Management System (IPMS) tailored for Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), a prominent institution known for its advancements in agricultural technologies. Managed by the University Innovation and Technology Support Office (UITSO), MMSU currently employs a database system for handling intellectual property (IP). However, to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, this study aims to expand the existing framework into a comprehensive IPMS that covers the entire lifecycle of IP management—from creation and submission to protection and commercialization.
The objectives include analyzing MMSU's current IP management system, designing a customized IPMS to address identified gaps, and evaluating its effectiveness through usability testing and stakeholder feedback. The proposed IPMS seeks to streamline processes, improve resource allocation, and foster a culture of innovation by centralizing IP asset management.
Expected outcomes encompass a fully functional IPMS equipped with advanced management tools and reporting capabilities, research publications on IP management best practices, and policies aligned with national and international standards. The study also aims to provide training programs for stakeholders and establish partnerships to facilitate seamless integration of the IPMS into university operations.
This research is significant as it aims to bolster MMSU's capacity in IP management, safeguard valuable assets, stimulate collaboration, and support economic growth through enhanced commercialization efforts. By adhering to global IP management standards, MMSU endeavors to reinforce its leadership in innovation and technology while contributing to the academic discourse on effective IP management practices.

Expected Output
  • Product: A comprehensive IPMS integrating management tools and reporting capabilities.
  • Publication: Research documentation and papers on IP management best practices.
  • Patent: Intellectual property protection for the developed IPMS and associated software.
  • Policy:
  • People Services: Training programs for stakeholders on IPMS usage and support services.
  • Places and Partnerships: Collaboration with stakeholders to integrate IPMS into existing practices.
  • Social Impact: Promotion of innovation and knowledge dissemination within MMSU.
  • Economic Impact: Support for commercialization efforts and economic growth through IP management.
