Brief Description
Continuing efforts to develop a sustainable seed support system is very important to address the problem on low quality seeds of garlic seed bulbs. Through tissue culture and bulbil production, quality seed bulbs will be produced.

There will be experiments done invitro for shoot multiplication and for invitro bulbing of garlic, using five registered garlic varieties, namely Ilocos Pink, Ilocos White, Mexican, Miracle and Tan Bolters. For the study on enhancing the production of garlic bulbils, experiments will also be undertaken under field condition, using different treatments using different kinds and sources of fertilizer, and combinations.

Both samples of TC-derived bulbs and bulbil-derived bulbs will be screened of virus. Those with no viruses, these will be multiplied, up to G3.

Training of garlic seed growers will also be done. During the regular planting season, which is Nov 15, or earlier, they will grow the G2 and G3 TC-derived and bulbil-derived seed bulbs.

Expected Output
Modified technology on the invitro multiplication of garlic shoots and bulblets

Improved technology for high percentage of bulbil production
