Biography

Rhian Jaymar D. Ramil is an Assistant Professor and faculty researcher in the Pharmacy Department of the College of Health Sciences where he has been since 2007. He is a visiting researcher in the Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University in Japan wherein he participated in a research collaboration on natural products-based anticancer research from April to June 2019. He also acquired training on Natural Products Chemistry during the Tuklas Lunas Fellowship Program of the DOST-PCHRD and De La Salle University from October 2020 – February 2021. He is currently a candidate for the degree PhD in Pharmacy at the Centro Escolar University exploring on the potential anticancer activity of a Philippine endemic plant.

As an early career researcher, his research experiences on Natural Products Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Experimental Pharmacology including cell- and biochemical-based assays allowed him to be involved in many research projects in the university and externally-funded researches. Of these, he has published 5 research articles as main author and co-author to SCOPUS-indexed (1), Web of Science-indexed (1) and peer-reviewed journals (3). As of 2021, Google Scholar reports 3 citations to his work. In addition, as main proponent, he applied for a patent grant to IPOPHIL for the discovery of a novel compound isolated from a terrestrial plant for potential use in the management of cancer diseases.

He co-pioneered the establishment of the University Research Ethics Review Board where he served as Chairperson from 2015 – 2017 and co-authored its Standard Operating Manual as needed for its Level 1 accreditation by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board. Likewise, he was one of the primary movers in the establishment of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Laboratory Animal Care Facility as a member and manager, respectively. To which the said facility was registered to the Bureau of Animal Industry and accredited by the Philippine Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences.
