Biography
Leonardo Daquioag Tejano currently serves as an Assistant Professor III at Mariano Marcos State University. His instructional responsibilities include teaching major and professional education courses within the Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Special Needs Education, and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education programs in the College of Teacher Education. He also teaches courses under the Master of Arts in Education-Ilokano Studies program at the MMSU Graduate School.
Tejano's scholarly interests are diverse, encompassing language education, mother tongue-based multilingual education, special education, cultural education, Ilokano and Amianan studies, and Indigenous studies. His expertise in these areas has earned him recognition, leading to invitations as a trainer and speaker at numerous local and national seminars, workshops, trainings, and conferences.
In addition to his teaching and research duties, Tejano has contributed to the literary and journalistic fields. His compositions have been featured in publications such as Bannawag and Liwayway, reflecting a creative dimension integral to his academic persona. He has also contributed articles to Rappler, a leading digital media company in the Philippines.
From 2020 to 2023, Tejano served as the Chief of the Mariano Marcos State University-Center for Iloko and Amianan Studies, where he led initiatives focused on the strategic utilization, development, and management of Ilokano and Northern Luzon knowledge, thereby solidifying his academic standing.
Tejano's academic journey includes the completion of academic requirements for a Master of Arts in Education-Special Education, and the attainment of a Master of Arts in Education-Ilokano Studies, all from Mariano Marcos State University. His foundational education is rooted in a Bachelor of Elementary Education-Special Education, also conferred by the same institution.
Tejano has been actively involved in various research projects, notably leading initiatives funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF). He has also contributed as a researcher to projects funded by the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Mariano Marcos State University.
Tejano's scholarly outputs include journal articles and online journalistic pieces that delve into topics such as translanguaging, multilingual education, cultural studies, and Indigenous narratives.
An active participant in academic discourse, Tejano has attended numerous conferences, seminars, and workshops. He has also contributed to translation projects, facilitating the dissemination of information across linguistic boundaries. Currently, he serves as the research coordinator for the MMSU College of Teacher Education.
