MMSU clinches 6 awards at 35th ILAARRDEC regional symposium

The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) emerged as a major standout at the 35th ILAARRDEC Regional Symposium on R&D Highlights held in conjunction with the 1st Joint Regional Research, Development, and Innovation Symposium by garnering six awards out of the 12 presented across four categories. The event collaboratively organized by the three consortia in Region 1 - ILAARRDEC, the Ilocos Consortium for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (ICIEERD), and the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) took place on December 13-15, 2023, at the Golden Lion Hotel in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

MMSU dominated the oral presentation research category by securing all three awards. The winning papers are as follows:  1st place - “Value Chain Analysis of Garlic in the Philippines” authored by Marilou P. Lucas, Sheena Marie Joy P. Lidora, Ethel Reynda M. Calivoso, Jaypee P. Ilacas, Mazarine Christine L. Lagundino, & Jenma G. Rasco got the first place; 2nd place - “Assessment of the Predominant Lowland Soils Across Selected Municipalities of Ilocos Norte” by Dionisio S. Bucao, Aiza L. Dalere, Fema Joy P. Baldovi, Janet D. Villamor, Aprilyn D. Bumanglag, Kenneth P. Tapac, Arlene, L. Gonzales, & Arlene Mia G. Ruguian; and 3rd place -  “Characterization of Porcine Colostrum Oligosaccharides by LC/MC/MS and Antibody (IgA) Activities in Nonchallenged ICR Mice” by Jessica G. Asuncion, Doreen D. Domingo, Concepcion A. Remoroza, Shirley C. Agrupis, & Prima Fe R. Franco.

Moreover, in the oral presentation development category, MMSU got the first place with the paper “Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE): The Case of Ilocos Region” by Dionisio S. Bucao, Jay Pee B. Ilacas, Ethel Reynda M. Caliboso, Love Grace D. Campano, Lenie G. Bayangos, Artbelson Mamuri, Emil James P. Tanagon, Kimberly S. Miguel, Lei Frances E. Ribac, Jerson S. Coloma, Bryll B. Atienza, Cathelyn May M. Alupay, Joyce T. Alejo, Diana Rose R. Salaguban, Abegail Marcelino, Mercy R. Gaño, Lord Ian R. Galano.

In the poster presentation research category, MMSU got two out of the three awards with its posters titled “Evaluation of Tomato Lines in the Ilocos” by Marissa I. Atis, J. Ramos, H. Obien and “Development of Remote-Sensing Based Cropping Calendar and Drought Map in Ilocos region” by  Shivherley Benedict Feland T. Dolores, Alex C. Garibay, Jr, Angelica T. Baral, Grace A. Garcia, first and second place, respectively.

While MMSU dominated the poster research category, the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) swept the development category awards. It also captured the second and third place awards under the oral development category and second place in the poster research category.

The winning entries of MMSU are among the 16 research papers and four posters presented by its researchers in this year’s symposium.

The joint symposium was conducted under the theme “Harmonizing innovative sustainable resource management through synergistic R&D efforts in Region 1” with Dr. Jose V. Camacho, chancellor of the University of the Philippines, Los Baños, as keynote speaker.
