Eight research and development (R&D) papers and posters of the Mariano Marcos State University got awards during the 33rd Regional Symposium on R&D Highlights of the Ilocos AgricuIture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (LAARRDEC) virtually held on December 1-2, 2021.
The R&D papers and posters were among the 14 entries of MMSU presented by the researchers under the four categories, four of which are research and two development papers; while six are research and two development posters.
In the research paper oral category, all three awards were garnered by MMSU entries where the paper “Sustainable production, utilization, and marketing of true-to-type Bolinao chicken in Ilocos Region” by the team of Dr. Marilou P. Lucas won first place. This research was done in collatoration with the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), and Pangasinan State University (PSU).
Under the same category, the paper “Cytotoxic activities against HT29 cell line and immunosuppressive effects on concanavalin A-stimulated splenocyte proliferation of the extracts obtained from selected Philippine endemic plants” of professors Ma. Danica I. Ramil and Rhian Jaymart D. Ramil placed second.
In addition, the paper presented by the group of Dr. Nathaniel Alibuyog entitled “Improving the package of technologies for tomato using the DSSAT Model” was third place.
In the development paper oral category, “Technology transfer and partnership with the private sector toward sustainable production of Bolinao chicken’ of the team on Ms. Bella Gervacio emerged second place.
On the other hand, under the research poster category, the team of Ms. Maria Concepcion Birginias, Ms. Menisa Antonio and Ms. Josefa Pugat captured the second place with their poster “Propagating the Indigenous Veggie, Himbabao: How to do it?”.
Likewise, the poster “New promising yellow corn hybrids recommended for commercial release in Luzon and Mindanao” of Mr. Mario Remolacio and Mr. Constante Julian captured the third place.
Under the development poster category, the two MMSU entries “CARES Farm: Pagwadan ti Kammayet ken Tunos para iti Nadur-as a Panagtalon” of the team led by Dr. Aris Reynold Cajigal clinched the first place and the “MMSU Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubator” of the group of Prof. Mishael Joy Barrera was adjudged second.
Meanwhile, MMSU’s Bolinao research paper having won the frst place research paper will be the ILAARRDEC’s official entries to the Best R&D Paper Awards in the National Symposium on Agriculture and Aquatic Resources R&D (NSAARD) annually conducted by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD).
This year’s ILAARRDEC symposium had for its theme “Advancing RDE Innovations towards AANR Resilience in the New Normal” with Dr. Liza G. Battad, the Acting Executive Director and Assistant Secretary for Regulations Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) as its keynote speaker.
The symposium participated researchers from the 18 consortium member institutions was hosted by the ISPSC and Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).
