In its aim to strengthen the data analysis capabilities of researchers, the Research Directorate (RD) hosted a two-day training program titled “IBM SPSS Training for Researchers,” held August 10-11 at the College of Computing and Information Science (CCIS).
The event organized in collaboration with STRAND Asia, Inc., aimed at providing the participants with basic knowledge on using the IBM SPSS, a widely used statistical software, for data analysis and interpretation.
The two-day event was attended by 45 faculty members from the different colleges of the Mariano Marcos State University and five full-time researchers. Led by the lecturer, Prof. Rene Argenal of the University of San Carlos, who lectured via Zoom, the participants engaged in hands-on exercises and the presentation of outputs. They gained insights on how to present data comprehensively, understood the assumptions of many statistical techniques and their underlying concepts, and learned the basic functions of IBM SPSS.
The SPSS training was the first training program organized under the newly approved University Statistical Service Office (USSO) and one of the capacity-building programs for researchers included in the RD’s 2023 calendar of activities under the leadership of the RD director, Dr. Bjorn S. Santos.
