The Research Directorate (RD) of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) hosted seven scholars of the Philippine Science High School-Ilocos Region Campus (PSHS-IRC) or known as Pisay Ilocos for its Science Immersion Program (SIP) from June 19-30, 2023.
The scholars were deployed to four MMSU research projects, exposing them to the actual scientific research activities in the laboratory and the field set-up. The projects included are the Bolinao chicken production, Tuklas Lunas, black garlic, and the garlic and other agri-food condiments. They were supervised by the researchers in charge of said projects.
As the final output of the SIP, the Pisay interns drafted their research proposals which they presented and were critiqued during the culminating program held on July 05 at MMSU Crop Research Laboratory. Dr. Bjorn S. Santos, MMSU Research director, and the assigned researcher-supervisors served as evaluators.
The SIP is a required course where Pisay students can learn science, engineering, and research laboratory skills and concepts in a host institution.
The hosting of the Pisay scholars is part of the partnership between MMSU and Pisay Ilocos for the SIP, formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed earlier by MMSU president, Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis and PSHS-IRC director Ronnalee N. Orteza
