Alliin and Total Phenolic Content of Garlic (Allium sativum L.) Accessions Collected from Ilocos Norte

Brief Description

This study focuses on the biochemical evaluation of garlic accessions collected across the province of Ilocos Norte through alliin and total phenolic content (TPC) determination via High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC)-densitometric analysis and Folin-Ciocalteu Assay, respectively. Generally, ANOVA results indicate that alliin content and TPC among the accessions are significantly different. Pairwise comparisons via t-test with Bonferroni correction reveal that some accessions do not have significant differences on the alliin content and TPC. Overall, results are suggestive of varying bioactivity among garlic accessions.
