Brief Description
The goals of this project are:
- To improve productivity and develop hybrids for wet season planting.
- To develop pureline cultivars suited for wet season planting.
- To develop varieties for possible NSIC registration.
The project is composed of the following components:
- Development of MMSU F1 Hybrid Eggplant for Wet Season Planting
- Development of Pureline Eggplant Cultivars for Wet Season Planting
- On-farm Evaluation of Promising Varieties of Eggplant
Major activities include:
- Evaluation of promising F1 hybrids for wet season planting
- Identification of promising lines suited for specific culinary purposes
- Selection of promising F1 hybrids for pureline selection
- On-farm trial of promising varieties
- Multi-location trial
- Application for NSIC registration
Expected Output
- High yielding varieties (pinakbet and broiling type) suited for wet season planting
- Reduced fluctuation of supply during wet season planting
- Collected all available genetic materials, local and introduced
- Varieties for registration to NSIC
