Brief Description

The goals of this project are:

  1. To improve productivity and develop hybrids for wet season planting.
  2. To develop pureline cultivars suited for wet season planting.
  3. To develop varieties for possible NSIC registration.
The project is composed of the following components:

  1. Development of MMSU F1 Hybrid Eggplant for Wet Season Planting
  2. Development of Pureline Eggplant Cultivars for Wet Season Planting
  3. On-farm Evaluation of Promising Varieties of Eggplant
Major activities include:
  1. Evaluation of promising F1 hybrids for wet season planting
  2. Identification of promising lines suited for specific culinary purposes
  3. Selection of promising F1 hybrids for pureline selection
  4. On-farm trial of promising varieties
  5. Multi-location trial
  6. Application for NSIC registration

Expected Output

  • High yielding varieties (pinakbet and broiling type) suited for wet season planting 
  • Reduced fluctuation of supply during wet season planting
  • Collected all available genetic materials, local and introduced
  • Varieties for registration to NSIC
