MMSU conducts research proposal review, endorsing 34 projects for funding
July 24, 2024
The Mariano Marcos State University held its highly anticipated Agency In-house Research Proposal (AIRPR) Review on July 11-12 at the Center for Flexible Learning (CFL). Spearheaded by the Research Directorate (RD), the event culminated in the selection of 34 high-impact research projects slated to receive funding.
This year, 70 research proposals were presented and reviewed out of the 81 submitted by faculty and full-time researchers in two separate sessions. The research proposals spanned a wide range of disciplines, reflecting the diverse academic and research interests within the university. These were categorized as follows: Agriculture, Forestry, Natural Sciences, Climate Change, and Environment-10; Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, Culture, and Arts-29; Engineering and Industry-10–10; Health and Wellness-9; Information Technology-12.
Dr. Nathaniel Alibuyog, vice president for research, development, and innovation, welcomed the participants to the two-day affair during its opening program, acknowledging the presence of seasoned and new researchers. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation among faculty and full-time researchers. Dr. Alibuyog likewise encouraged attendees' active participation, advised presenters to embrace feedback for improvement, and appealed to evaluators to provide constructive, supportive comments.
In the same event, MMSU President Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis also addressed the attendees, emphasizing the critical role of research in the academic community. She urged faculty and full-time researchers to enhance their research outputs and integrate research activities more deeply into their roles beyond their teaching responsibilities. Dr. Agrupis proposed stricter policies for research productivity and a review of workloads and encouraged the use of resources like the Institutional Manpower Development Fund (IMDF) for skill enhancement rather than personal benefits.
After careful deliberation by a panel of experts from within the university in each session and overseen by the RD director, Dr. Dionisio S. Bucao, the 34 research proposals selected are endorsed for funding under the MMSU's general appropriations for implementation in 2025. The endorsed proposals are distributed across various fields: Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, Culture & Arts- 8; Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resources –8; Information Technology - 6; Health & Wellness-6; and Engineering and Industry-6. The proponents of endorsed projects must incorporate suggestions and submit detailed proposals to warrant their inclusion in the RD's roster of projects for 2025.
The annual conduct of AIRPR underscores MMSU's unwavering commitment to nurturing a vibrant research culture in the university. Specifically, the call for proposals provides support for the production and dissemination of information and content that are within the priority areas as listed in the University-wide R&D Agenda, promotes and fosters collaboration among faculty and full-time researchers across disciplines, and provides an opportunity for faculty and full-time researchers to advance their research capabilities.
