Brief Description | Major activities include: Collection/Multiplication Germplasm collection will be done in Ilocos Norte particularly Sarrat, Dingras, Paoay and Currimao. Few cuttings collected will be pre-germinated and planted for multiplication at the germplasm area. Germplasm Establishment Cassava will be harvested after 8 months. Matured healthy cuttings will be established in the germplasm area for morphological characterization. From planting to harvesting, proper monitoring, gathering and recording will be done. Interested growers can avail later few cuttings for them to multiply for their own planting materials in a larger scale. Stem cuttings produced will be sold at cost to the clientele. Varietal Evaluation Criteria for the selection of promising MMSU collections will be evaluated such as yield and yield characteristics. Dry matter and starch content, pest and diseases and eating quality of the entries will also be included as parameters. Field day will also be scheduled for farmers participation in the promising selection process. On-farm Trial Site selection and farm cooperator identification will be done within the 3 target coastal municipalities of Ilocos Norte. If planting materials are already available, establishment will be done during the onset of the rainy season farmer-research managed trial and strict monitoring will be implemented. However, cultural management practices employed will be done by the farmer cooperator and likewise researchers will do the data gathering. Development Value Adding Products and Evaluation Formulation of various product development which are simple and economical processing. Evaluation of the value-adding product will be based from the standard criteria. Panel of evaluators will consists faculty, students and housewives. Brochure/Leaflets Experts will assist in the preparation of brochure/leaflets for distribution to interested cassava farmers for their production guide. Technology Dissemination Barangays/towns interested, dissemination through lectures/seminars will be conducted with approval requests from the President. Likewise demo food preparation and cooking will also be included especially for the housewives. Travel/Communication Scheduling of travel/activities will be properly planned and followed in order to attain such objective specifically on-farm/demo activities. |
